Alba is the flagship of New Jersey’s little-known Warren Hills AVA - a 226-square-mile appellation established in 1988 with just five wineries, where river valleys moderate airflow to deliver Oregon-like diurnal swings and morning fog. The Sharko family has owned the 200-acre estate since the late 1990s, and winemaker Nick Sharko’s Cabernet Franc has famously fooled blind tasters into calling it Right Bank Bordeaux - muted fruit, leather, and tobacco. Cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Riesling lead the vinifera plantings alongside unusually polished hybrids like Traminette and Chambourcin, which locals note taste far more vinifera-like here than elsewhere.
