About Antinori Napa Valley (Antica)
Antica Napa Valley is the California expression of the Antinori family's Atlas Peak estate, the same 400-acre volcanic ridge property that operates under the Antinori Napa Valley name for certain productions. Founded in 1992 under the Antica designation, the label focuses specifically on the estate's Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay programs at Atlas Peak elevations between 1,600 and 2,400 feet, where volcanic soils and elevation produce wines of remarkable concentration and minerality.
The Antica name, meaning "ancient" in Italian, the feminine form, reflects both the Antinori family's 600-year winemaking heritage and the ancient volcanic origins of the Atlas Peak terroir. Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagshipshowing the structure, tannin architecture, and aging potential that Atlas Peak's elevation and volcanic soils reliably deliver. The Chardonnay, from the estate's cooler blocks, demonstrates the kind of tension and mineral drive that sets high-elevation Napa Chardonnay apart from valley floor productions.
Tastings are by appointment at $55, with the Atlas Peak location providing one of the most dramatic and remote tasting experiences in the Napa Valley. The elevation and the estate's relative inaccessibility are features rather than inconveniences, they reflect the seriousness of the terroir and the commitment required to farm it well.
"Antica is Napa Valley Cabernet from one of the valley's great elevated estates, the Antinori family's six centuries of winemaking wisdom applied to 2,000 feet of volcanic Napa terrain."
The Antica designation and the Antinori Napa Valley designation operate from the same Atlas Peak estate, with slightly different sourcing and blending approaches. Both labels represent the Antinori family's serious long-term commitment to producing world-class wine from this exceptional Napa Valley site.
