About Boggy Creek Vineyard

Boggy Creek Vineyard is a muscadine vineyard at 11300 Paige Bayou Road in Vancleave, Mississippi, in Jackson County near the Gulf Coast. It is owned by Jack and Peggy Hoover, and the planting runs to about 80 acres of purple and bronze muscadines, the grapes many Mississippians call scuppernongs. The vineyard has been described as roughly 30 years old, which places its start in the mid 1990s.

This is a pick-your-own farm rather than a tasting room. The Hoovers open for a short window each year, generally two to three weeks set by when the fruit is ready, with a Harvest Celebration Day usually in August. Visitors bring their own buckets, pick their own grapes and are welcome to eat as they go. Besides fresh fruit the farm has sold muscadine juice, T-shirts and cold drinks during harvest, and its website carries recipes for turning the grapes into jellies, jams, pies, sauces and ice cream.

Do not plan this as a wine stop. The vineyard's own site describes grapes, juice and the harvest event and makes no mention of wine production or a tasting room, and the winery side is not operating. The season is short and the dates move with the fruit, so the phone number on file, (228) 283-0442, is the thing to use before you drive. Confirm current details and the harvest dates before you go.

This winery is listed here for reference. It is closed, so there is no tasting room to visit.

Eighty acres of muscadines in Vancleave, open two or three weeks a year for pick-your-own, not for wine.
