About Buttonwood Farm Winery & Vineyard
Buttonwood Farm Winery and Vineyard is a working farm first and a winery second, in the best possible way. On 107 acres between Solvang and Los Olivos, a property farmed since the 1800s, founder Betty Williams built a sustainable farm that grew from horses to organic vegetables to a vineyard, planted in 1983 on a sun-drenched mesa.
Today 42 acres and some 38,000 vines produce estate wines led by Sauvignon Blanc, including a Musque clone bottling, alongside Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Grenache Blanc, Grenache, Syrah, Malbec and a touch of Chenin Blanc. The rest of the farm supplies the famous roadside peaches of summer, plus pomegranates, olives, peonies and a market garden that surrounds the cottage-style tasting room.
Visits are relaxed and genuinely farm-flavored: 90-minute seated tastings in the garden or on the patio, daily from 11 to 4, with walk-ins welcome as space allows and reservations encouraged on weekends. It is family- and dog-friendly, and guided horseback rides through the vines, ending with a glass of estate wine, round out one of the valley's most charming stops.
