About Cain & Crane Wine Company
Cain & Crane Wine Company pairs two naming elements of very different character: Cain, the first son in the biblical narrative (the one who worked the earth, who farmed, who was ultimately marked and cast out), and Crane, the bird famous for its elaborate dancing displays and its reputation in many Asian cultures as a symbol of longevity and good fortune.
The combination is deliberate in its tension: the weight of the Cain narrative (the farmer, the marked one, the toil of working the earth) balanced by the lightness of the Crane's dance (the natural world's most graceful display, longevity expressed through movement). Wine as the product of farming's toil and nature's grace simultaneously.
The El Pomar District boutique produces Grenache and Syrah from calcareous limestone estate vineyards with the contrasting-elements philosophy the dual naming implies.
