About Campos Family Vineyards
Tucked into the rolling hills of eastern Contra Costa County, Campos Family Vineyards occupies a stunning 44-acre parcel along Byer Road in Byron, California. Owners Ric and Michelle Campos purchased the property in 2016 and have since transformed it into one of the Bay Area's most welcoming wine country destinations, blending a genuine family atmosphere with seriously good estate-grown wine. Their daughter Kenzie is also part of the operation, and the family's warmth is a point that visitors mention again and again. The 31-acre vineyard is planted to five red varietals perfectly suited to the warm, dry climate of this corner of the California Delta: Cabernet Franc, Barbera, Mouvedre, Petite Sirah and Zinfandel. An additional six acres of olive trees dot the landscape, providing estate olive oil alongside the wine.
Winemaker Gerardo brings years of hands-on experience to the cellar, crafting each vintage to showcase the rustic, earthy character that defines Contra Costa County wines. The region is home to some of the oldest vine plantings in California, and that heritage informs everything at Campos Family Vineyards, from the bold, structured Petite Sirah to the spicy, fruit-forward Zinfandel. A standout in the lineup is the Biggie's Bourbon Barrel Aged Estate Zinfandel, a creative expression that layers rich dark fruit with warm vanilla and char from barrel aging. The wines have earned multiple awards, and visitors regularly single out the Petite Sirah and Viognier flights as particular highlights. A member of the Contra Costa Winegrowers Association and certified through the Lodi Rules sustainability program, the estate practices responsible viticulture across every acre.
Beyond the wines, Campos Family Vineyards is a true community gathering place. The property features two spacious indoor event spaces totaling more than 13,000 square feet, a beautifully landscaped wedding garden, a bocce ball court, and, in a distinctly Campos touch, a full baseball field. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday, with walk-ins welcome and food trucks frequently on site during weekend events. From concerts and winemaker dinners to private parties, family movie nights and fundraisers, the calendar stays full year-round. Views of Mt. Diablo from the property add a dramatic backdrop to every visit. If you are looking for a genuine, family-friendly wine experience without the crowds and high price tags of Napa, Campos Family Vineyards delivers the charm, the setting and the award-winning wines to match.
