About Casino Mine Ranch
Casino Mine Ranch is named for the layered history of the El Dorado County property — the historic gold-mining claim (the casino mine, from the Spanish casino, meaning 'little house,' a name given to many informal gold-rush workings) and the cattle ranch that succeeded the mining operations before viticulture claimed the land for the current era. Three seasons of California land use in one name: mine, ranch, vineyard.
The Carson Road estate produces Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, and Tempranillo from El Dorado County vineyard blocks at foothill elevations where the diurnal temperature swings and gold-rush-era soil disturbance have created growing conditions that differ significantly from the undisturbed soils of lower-elevation California wine regions.
The daily walk-in experience connects visitors to the layered history of gold-rush California as much as to the current wine program.
