About Cerro Caliente Cellars
Cerro Caliente Cellars was a garagiste winery run by Don and Mitzi out of an industrial block at 831-A Via Esteban on the east side of San Luis Obispo, not in Paso Robles as this listing previously showed. California Winery Advisor dates the winery to 1998. Its own description leaned into the double life of the place: the only mechanic and winemaker under one roof.
The house made roughly twenty different wines a year, all handled by hand from fresh fruit through to bottling, buying grapes from growers it described as passionate about their vineyards and aging in American, French and Hungarian oak. The list ran through Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Zinfandel, Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and Bordeaux style blends. The hot rod theme ran right through it, with artist designed car labels and an annual Hot Rods and Cool Wines car show in July. California Winery Advisor recorded Friday to Sunday hours, 11 am to 5 pm, and a five dollar tasting fee credited with purchase.
The winery is no longer operating. It appears on WineRelease's list of wineries no longer in business, business listings mark it permanently closed, and its web domain no longer resolves. There is no tasting room to visit. Confirm current details before planning any trip to Via Esteban.
