Chatham farms a 1640s land grant on the Eastern Shore: Jon Wehner's Machipongo estate grows maritime-cooled vines between the Chesapeake and Atlantic, the steel-fermented Church Creek Chardonnay a state benchmark, kayak-to-the-winery paddles making the visit literal waterfront.
