About Cline Family Cellars - Contra Costa Roots
Fred Cline founded his winery in Oakley in 1982 on the strength of the area's old Mourvedre, Zinfandel and Carignane plantings, some of California's most venerable own-rooted vines, before moving the winery to Carneros in 1989.
The company still acknowledges and works its Contra Costa old-vine roots, and those Oakley vineyards remain the historical heart of the label's ancient-vine bottlings.
There is no Contra Costa visitor location: public tasting happens at the Sonoma estate on Arnold Drive, covered on the Cline Family Cellars page. This page keeps the origin story on the county's map, where it belongs.
