About Copain Wines

Copain Wines was founded in 1999 by Wells Guthrie, who trained in Burgundy and the Northern Rhône before returning to California to apply European minimalism to Sonoma County's finest Pinot Noir and Syrah sites. The name means 'friend' or 'companion' in French, and reflects Guthrie's philosophy that wine should connect people rather than intimidate them.

Copain became one of the most critically acclaimed California Pinot Noir and Syrah programs of the 2000s and 2010s, sourcing from some of the finest coastal California vineyard sites including Tous Ensemble, Kiser Ranch, and various Anderson Valley and Sonoma Coast parcels. The wines are and represent some of the finest expressions of cool-climate California Pinot and Syrah produced.

Now part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio, Copain continues to produce from the same exceptional cool-climate sites with the same minimal-intervention philosophy. The Healdsburg tasting room offers a focused, appointment-only experience with a knowledgeable host and stunning views of the surrounding wine country.

At its Healdsburg, Sonoma County location, Copain Wines presents a featured lineup that includes Tous Ensemble Pinot Noir, Kiser En Haut Pinot Noir, Tous Ensemble Syrah, and Anderson Valley Pinot Noir. Together, these bottles provide a focused introduction to the varieties, vineyard sources, and style that define the winery's current portfolio.
