About Cowie Wine Cellars & Vineyards
Cowie Wine Cellars was founded on August 17, 1967 by Robert Cowie, who had started making wine as a hobby at fifteen. It stood at 101 N Carbon City Road just west of Paris, in Logan County, Arkansas, on the former grounds of St. Ann's School at Carbon City. The family built a house on the property in 1972 and lived on site, bottling and labeling the wine by hand.
Cowie kept the winery deliberately small and still collected state and national awards, with its Cynthiana and its Robert's Port drawing the most attention. The range ran dry to sweet and included several fruit wines. The property also housed the Arkansas Historic Wine Museum, described as the only museum in the United States devoted to preserving the wine culture of an entire state.
The winery closed around 2020, and business listings now mark it permanently closed. There is no tasting room to visit and the museum's current public access could not be confirmed. Confirm current details before driving to Carbon City Road.
