About Dierberg Vineyard
Dierberg Vineyard is the Santa Barbara County wine project of Jim and Mary Dierberg — their family surname placed directly on estate vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills and Santa Ynez Valley that have become some of Santa Barbara County's most critically respected Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sources.
The Dierbergs' background is in viticulture before winemaking: they developed the Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard in the Finger Lakes before turning their attention to Santa Barbara County, where the family planted estate vineyards in the Santa Rita Hills and Santa Ynez Valley. The Drum Canyon Road estate in the Santa Rita Hills produces Chardonnay and Pinot Noir from one of the appellation's windiest and most challenging sub-sites.
Star Lane Vineyard — the family's Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara Cabernet Sauvignon estate — produces a different style from the more sheltered eastern Santa Ynez Valley, where temperatures allow Bordeaux varieties to ripen fully.
Wine Advocate has scored Dierberg's Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and Star Lane Cabernet at 91–95 points.
