About Domaine Della
Domaine Della is the luxury, small-production Pinot Noir and Chardonnay project of David Hejl, who spent years as CEO of Kosta Browne, building it from a small brand into a major name before its celebrated sale. In 2015 he left to focus entirely on his own label, which he had begun a few years earlier and named for his late mother, Della Winifred Dale. He runs it with family, including his sister and brother-in-law.
The wines are the whole point, and they are made in tiny quantities from some of the most coveted vineyards on the coast, sites like Rochioli, Soberanes and Terra de Promissio across the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast and Santa Lucia Highlands. Made with native-yeast fermentations, whole-cluster inclusion and French oak, they have drawn 93-to-99-point scores and a shelf of Double Gold medals, and are released twice a year to allocation-list members.
Visits are intimate and by appointment. Tastings are typically led by David and Mary themselves, part guided flight, part tour, with the hands-on story behind each wine, the kind of warm, personal reception that has guests describing the experience as being treated like family.
