About Edmeades Winery
Edmeades Winery is one of Anderson Valley's founding wine estates and one of the most historically significant properties on the entire Highway 128 wine corridor. Deron Edmeades first planted vines on the Philo property in 1968 — making Edmeades one of the earliest commercial wine ventures in what would eventually become one of California's most celebrated cool-climate wine appellations — at a time when the Anderson Valley had no wine industry infrastructure, no critical reputation, and no obvious reason to believe that the remote Navarro River corridor could produce world-class Pinot Noir and Gewürztraminer.
The estate is now part of the Jackson Family Wines portfolio, which has maintained the property's historical character and wine focus while investing in the cellar and production quality. The Anderson Valley terrain that Deron Edmeades identified over 55 years ago — cool, fog-influenced, with mornings of maritime mist and afternoons of valley warmth — produces Gewürztraminer, Zinfandel, and Pinot Noir of genuine estate character that honors the founding vision.
Wine Enthusiast specifically highlights Edmeades in its guide to Anderson Valley's best wineries, recommending the Baxter 2020 Oppenlander Vineyard Chardonnay alongside the estate program as a reason to visit the Philo portion of Highway 128. The daily walk-in tasting with picnic grounds and Anderson Valley views makes Edmeades the most historically grounded and scenically complete walk-in estate on the valley's western wine trail.
