Firetree Family Vineyards is named for the fire-dependent tree — the pyrophyte whose cones only release their seeds after fire's heat opens them, whose regeneration requires the transformative power of combustion. The metaphor applies to the winemaking process: the transformative heat of fermentation, the pressure of mountain terroir, the fire-like transformation from grape to wine that no amount of deliberate manipulation can fully replicate.

The Howell Mountain estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon from volcanic red soils at high elevation where the geological history of volcanic fire is still visible in the mineral complexity of the soil. The fire-regeneration philosophy: something extraordinary grows from the transformative pressure.
