About Fisher Vineyards

Fred Fisher, grandson of one of the seven brothers who founded the Fisher Body company that became part of General Motors, and Juelle Lamb bought a remote 100-plus-acre Mayacamas homestead in 1973 with no water, no electricity, and no road, clearing land by hand and marrying in 1975 in what became the Wedding Vineyard, where each of their three children later wed too. Fred interned under Philip Togni at Cuvaison to learn winemaking, then built the barn-style winery himself in 1978 with the "holy trilogy" of Napa design, architect William Turnbull, builder Matt Sylvia, and friend Jack Cakebread, using only timber grown and milled on the property; barrel caves were dug beneath it in 1998, reached by a steep underground stairway.

Whitney's Vineyard, planted in 1973 to Old Wente clone Chardonnay at 1,000 feet, became a quiet California classic with its tiny "hens and chicks" clusters and brilliant minerality, and the family added a Calistoga estate in Napa, making Fisher one of the rare estate wineries bridging both counties. All three children returned: Whitney as winegrower, Robert as CEO, Cameron leading hospitality, and Fred, who co-founded Family Winemakers of California with Dan Duckhorn and Jess Jackson, saw the second generation firmly in charge before his death in April 2025 at 91.

GM-heritage Fred Fisher and Juelle's 1973 hand-cleared Mayacamas estate, with a timber-from-the-land Turnbull barn winery and all three children now running it.
