Folktale is a lively, destination winery in Carmel Valley, set on a 15-acre estate that was formerly the historic Chateau Julien. Reimagined in the mid-2010s as a hospitality-focused hub, it makes estate and Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, sparkling, and rose, but the draw is as much the experience as the wine.
The grounds are made for lingering: manicured gardens and lawns, an oak-shaded courtyard, and live music on weekends, with full food service and a busy calendar of events.
