About Fralich Wines

Harry Fralich planted his dream vineyard in 1989 on fifteen acres of calcareous and siliceous shale in the Templeton Gap, and became one of the area's quiet grower-legends, a fixture of the Independent Grape Growers of the Paso Robles Area whose fruit, Syrah, Viognier, Grenache Blanc and famously Verdelho, feeds other winemakers' labels to this day; Hubba Wines bottles a Verdelho from six tiny blocks of Harry's parcel. Under his own Fralich label, Harry earned a reputation for eccentric range, from varietal Viognier to blends and ports carrying his first name, like Harry's Patio Red and Harry's Concierge Port.

The operation has always been personal, one man's fifteen acres and a Templeton tasting presence, and the wines reviewed modestly but sold on charm and rarity, Verdelho especially being a grape few Californians had met. Fralich stands for the grower's side of the Templeton Gap: the small farmers whose unusual plantings give the region's winemakers their most interesting toys.
