About Galer Estate Vineyard & Winery
Galer Estate Vineyard & Winery was a Brandywine Valley winery at 700 Folly Hill Road in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, immediately next to Longwood Gardens. Brad Galer, a physician and pharmaceutical executive, and his wife Lele bought the Folly Hill property in 2008 and opened the winery under the Galer Estate name in November 2011. They worked under a stated philosophy of blending nature, science and art, and Brad has said the couple started with limited vineyard and winemaking experience but were committed to doing it properly.
For about twelve years the estate poured its own wines in a tasting room on the property and was a regular stop for visitors touring Chester County. It closed to the public on September 17, 2023. Brad Galer had taken a job requiring a move to Boston, and the decision to sell was settled after winemaker Virginia Mitchell left in the summer of 2023. Longwood Gardens bought the property, stating that the purchase was first and foremost about preserving the agricultural land and that it had no current plans to enter the wine business. The remaining Galer wine inventory transferred to Longwood, where it was served by the glass at the Beer Garden.
There is no tasting room to visit here any longer, so do not plan a stop at 700 Folly Hill Road. The daily 10 am to 4 pm hours shown on this page are out of date, and no tasting fee or reservation policy applies. A traveler who wants to taste Galer wine can ask Longwood Gardens whether any is still on its food and drink menus. Confirm current details before you go.
