About Gamba Vineyards & Winery

Gamba Vineyards & Winery is one of the Russian River Valley's benchmark names for old-vine Zinfandel, run by Agostino 'Gus' Gamba, a sixth-generation grower and winemaker. His family's roots trace to Northern Italy, on the border of Piemonte and Liguria near Barolo and Barbaresco, and his father brought the tradition to Sonoma County; Gus's own children represent the seventh generation. The family released its first Gamba Old Vine Zinfandel in 2000 and has been a driving force in Sonoma Zinfandel ever since.

The wines come from organically farmed, century-old vines, some planted around 1900 and 1920, that are dry-farmed and cropped to tiny yields, producing intensely concentrated fruit. The result is a range of powerful, opulent single-vineyard Old Vine Zinfandels that critics routinely score in the low- to mid-90s and mention alongside cult names like Turley and Carlisle, plus a second label, Etrusca, for other varietals and blends.

Gamba is a small, family operation, and visits center on tasting these heritage Zinfandels in the verdant Russian River countryside where the vines grow, a genuine slice of Sonoma winegrowing history.
