About GlenLyon Vineyards & Winery
GlenLyon Vineyards & Winery is a small, family-owned estate at the northern tip of Sonoma Valley, tucked between the Sonoma and Mayacamas mountains above Glen Ellen. Its story began in 1986, when Suzy and Squire traded Southern California for 26 acres of raw, poison-oak-covered hillside, which they cleared by hand to build a cottage, plant vineyards and eventually raise a winery. The Scottish-themed name, GlenLyon is a glen in Scotland and members belong to the winery's Clan, nods to the family's roots and its warm, tongue-in-cheek spirit, captured in the house motto: Just Drink It.
Syrah is the heart of the estate, the only grape planted in GlenLyon's two sustainably farmed vineyards, where warm days and cool, foggy evenings suit it well. Around it, Squire makes a handful of other small-lot wines, including Cabernet, Chardonnay and Pinot from longtime grower partners, a Viognier and a rose, all in extremely limited quantities that are largely allocated to members.
Visits are private and by appointment. Squire typically hosts himself, walking guests through the vineyards and pouring the wines right where they are grown, a personal, unpretentious Sonoma Valley experience.
