About Great Basin Winery
Great Basin Winery is a small urban winery and tasting room at 415 E. Fourth Street in Reno, Nevada, founded in 2018 by Wendy and Adam Hand. Nevada rules require the wine to be made where it is sold, so the fermenting and bottling happen on the premises rather than out among vines. The tasting bar is part of Wineries on 4th, a shared space Great Basin occupies with Nevada Sunset Winery.
The Hands buy fruit through long standing vineyard relationships in Amador, Sonoma and Mendocino counties in Northern California, then ferment naturally and intervene as little as possible; the winemaker has described doing nothing to adjust pH or sugar content. The range covers whites, roses and reds, with Pinot Blanc, Sangiovese, Zinfandel, Syrah, Petite Sirah and red blends among the bottlings, and the Pinot Noir and Sangiovese have been singled out as good slightly chilled. The room has a wraparound bar and a large semi private table, flights are built to the visitor's preference, Lead Dog Brewing is next door and food trucks turn up in the parking lot. There is a wine club with bottle discounts and pickup parties.
Published tasting hours are Saturday 1 pm to 6 pm and Sunday 1 pm to 5 pm, with the room closed Monday through Friday; private tastings can be arranged by appointment outside those windows. A 2022 account put a five wine flight at $8 and bottles at $18 to $25, so treat those as a starting point rather than current pricing. The phone number on file is (775) 300-3107.
