Hahn Family Wines is one of the most historically Santa Lucia Highlands-founding and most comprehensively multi-tier Monterey County family wine estates. Nicolaus Hahn, whose Swiss business acumen and European wine culture background led him to purchase Santa Lucia Highlands Foothill Road property in 1980, before the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA was formally designated and when very few California producers recognized the distinctive cool-climate potential of the high-elevation Salinas Valley western ridge, was among the earliest and most committed advocates for the Santa Lucia Highlands' diurnal temperature swing and elevation-influenced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay growing character.
The Hahn family's multi-tier brand portfolio spans the full Monterey County wine quality spectrum: Smith & Hook at the accessible value tier, Hahn SLH at the mid-premium estate expression, and Lucienne at the most prestige single-vineyard and artisan-lot tier.
