About Harney Lane Winery

Harney Lane is a sixth-generation family farm in Lodi, where the family has worked the land since around 1900 on Henry Ranch, opening the winery in 2006. The wines are 100% estate-grown from sustainably farmed vineyards, and the family sums up its philosophy as making wine with "grace and grit." Lodi's warmth and deep soils are Zinfandel country, and Harney Lane's calling card is old-vine Zinfandel, most famously from the historic Lizzy James Vineyard, planted more than a century ago, alongside other estate varieties.

A visit connects you to that long farming history and to a warm, family-run tasting experience on a working estate. For anyone wanting to understand why Lodi is one of California's great homes for old-vine Zinfandel, Harney Lane, poured by the family that grows it, is an ideal introduction.

Field-verified September 2026: the club is the Grace + Grit Wine Society, and the estate's Henry Ranch bottlings are collecting hardware - the 2025 Albarino took 92 points and Gold at the 2026 California State Fair, the 2023 Chardonnay Gold at the 2025 SF Chronicle, the 2021 Zinfandel Gold and the 2022 Petite Sirah DOUBLE GOLD at the 2026 SF Chronicle. Special flights run around $20 (a Celebrate California Wine Month pour and members' weekends), and library selections like the 2020 Tempranillo and 2020 Petite Sirah appear alongside the flagship Patriarch's Promise Lot 24, a savory Ruby Cabernet.

What Wino Notion Liked
Our honest take after visiting
✓
The shaded patioA genuinely peaceful courtyard - mature shade, quiet fountains and enough space that conversation stays easy.
✓
Picnic-friendlyYou can bring your own food in, buy a bottle and simply settle in for the afternoon.
✓
Dogs welcomeWell-behaved dogs are comfortable here, which makes it an easy stop for travelers with a pup along.
✓
The winesEstate Henry Ranch bottlings with real hardware behind them, including a 92-point Gold Albarino.
One of Lodi's most relaxing places to spend an afternoon: buy a bottle, bring a picnic, and sit under the shade with the fountains going. Dog-friendly and unhurried - the antithesis of a rushed tasting-bar visit.
