About Heidrun Meadery

Heidrun Meadery is something genuinely different in West Marin: a producer of naturally sparkling varietal meads - wine made from honey rather than grapes - crafted using the traditional French methode champenoise. The result is a Champagne-style mead that is light, dry, delicate, and refreshing, with aromas drawn from the essence of each honey. Heidrun has been at it since 1997, under meadmaker Gordon Hull.

Because honey takes its character from the flowers the bees forage, each varietal mead is distinct - the floral source of the nectar shapes the finished wine the way a vineyard shapes a grape wine. Recent collaborations with The World Honey Exchange have brought honey varieties from beekeeping communities around the globe into the lineup.

The Point Reyes Station property is a former dairy farm transformed into a bee forage oasis, with pastures, gardens, and a greenhouse planted for year-round forage - an agrarian destination worth the drive on its own. The tasting room is open daily from 11am to 5pm; reservations can be made through the website, and a mead club (Club Mead) offers member benefits.
