About Helios Winery

Helios Winery is named for the Greek god of the sun — Helios, who drives his solar chariot across the sky each day, bringing light and warmth to the earth below. Applied to a Sierra Foothills wine estate, the name is both meteorological fact and philosophical declaration: at 2,800 to 3,200 feet in the Fair Play AVA, the mountain sun is extraordinarily intense, the clear air allowing more solar radiation to reach the vines than at lower elevations.

The Omo Ranch Road estate in Somerset produces Zinfandel, Syrah, Barbera, and Grenache from Fair Play AVA estate vineyard blocks where the solar intensity and dramatic diurnal temperature swings create wines of unusual concentration and natural freshness simultaneously.
