About HopKiln Legacy

HopKiln Legacy occupies the most architecturally remarkable winery building in Sonoma County. The 1905 hop-drying kiln on Westside Road — designated a California Historic Landmark — was originally built to dry hops for the Bay Area's 19th-century brewing industry, and its three distinctive stone towers and massive timber-frame barn have become one of the most photographed agricultural buildings in Sonoma wine country.

The Marty Griffin family, who founded the winery in 1975, originally preserved and converted the historic structure as a tribute to the hop-farming heritage that preceded wine in the Russian River Valley. The 240-acre estate now produces Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and other varietals from RRV vineyards that benefit from the same cool, fog-influenced Green Valley proximity that makes this section of Westside Road one of the valley's finest growing corridors.

The tasting experience inside the historic kilns is genuinely unlike any other in Sonoma County — stone walls, cathedral timber ceilings, and the sense of stepping into a piece of living agricultural history. A farm stand, culinary garden, and picnic grounds on the estate complete an experience that connects visitors to the pre-wine agricultural heritage of the Russian River Valley.
