Indian Island Winery

Indian Island Winery is a farm winery built on a site once used by Native Americans as a summer hunting camp, located near Janesville in southern Minnesota. The vineyard operation is substantial: more than 12 acres with over 6,000 vines spanning 17 different cold-hardy varieties, with new plantings added each year as the owners continue to experiment with what performs best in this part of the state. The winery originated from Winterhaven Vineyard and Nursery, and the focus remains firmly on growing its own grapes and sourcing from other local growers rather than importing fruit from out of state. The wines reflect that commitment to local terroir, and the lineup includes dry reds, whites, and fruit wines that showcase what Minnesota's newest cold-hardy grape varieties can produce.

The tasting room is on the farm property, and the rural setting gives the visit a genuine agricultural feel that connects visitors directly to the vineyard. Indian Island is a natural stop for anyone exploring the southern Minnesota wine trail between Chankaska Creek and the wineries near Mankato.
