About Irvine's Just Beyond Paradise
Irvine's Just Beyond Paradise is a family-operated farm winery on a 40-acre farm in the fertile Kaw River Valley, just northeast of Lawrence. What began in May 2020 as Ed Sr. and Cindy Irvine's passion project, inspired by a grandfather who made wine during Prohibition, has grown into a true multigenerational Kansas winery.
The second generation brings scientific precision to the craft: Ed Jr.'s background in molecular biology pairs with Scott Schlageck's formal winemaking education from UC Davis to produce award-winning, small-batch vintages rooted in Kansas. The lineup has expanded from four handcrafted wines to nearly twenty, spanning Kansas grape varietals like Norton, Chambourcin, and Traminette, distinctive fruit wines, honey meads, and a conversation-starting tomato wine, all drawing on the estate vineyard and neighboring Kansas vineyards, orchards, and farms. The intimate tasting room pours a rotating selection of on-tap meads and sparkling wines, serves wood-fired Neapolitan-style pizzas in the warm seasons, and hosts seasonal releases and an annual June Grandiversary celebration.
Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.
Writing a new definition of what Kansas wine can be.
