Jelly Roll Winery is named for Jelly Roll Morton — the New Orleans ragtime and jazz pioneer whose full name Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe was replaced by the playful street name Jelly Roll, a term from the early 20th century African-American musical world. The Jelly Roll philosophy declares wine with the improvisational spirit and rhythmic pleasure of early jazz: wine made with the same spontaneous joy and creative freedom that ragtime brought to American music. The Shenandoah Valley boutique produces Zinfandel and Barbera from estate and contracted Amador County vineyard sources.
