About Knez Winery
Knez Winery was an Anderson Valley producer in Mendocino County, California, built around two hillside vineyards. Peter Knez acquired Demuth Vineyard in 2007 and Cerise Vineyard in 2008, and the label carried his name. Anthony Filiberti was the first winemaker, later succeeded by Ryan McAllister, a veteran winemaker and vineyardist at several Anderson Valley wineries.
The wines came from those two estate sites, whose fruit ripened late even by Anderson Valley standards, and the house approach was to let each vineyard speak for itself. Sales ran mainly through a mailing list with limited retail distribution, which is why the bottles surface more often in specialist shops and at auction than on ordinary shelves.
There is nothing to visit. The Knez tasting location at The Madrones in Philo is closed, and a longtime Anderson Valley chronicler reports that the winery's last vintage was 2014. The by appointment hours, the $30 tasting fee and the required reservations shown on this page do not reflect a working tasting room. Older vintages can still be found through wine merchants and auction houses. Confirm current details before you go.
