About Larner Vineyard & Winery
Larner Vineyard & Winery is a boutique, family-owned estate in the heart of the Ballard Canyon AVA, a small warm pocket of the Santa Ynez Valley prized for Syrah. Stevan and Christine Larner planted the vineyard in 1999, and the family expanded into winemaking in 2009, building a reputation for age-worthy, terroir-driven wines.
The 134-acre ranch includes 34 acres of vines on chalky, sandy-loam soils that yield mineral-driven, balanced wines. Second-generation winemaker Michael Larner, who trained in geology and enology and helped establish the Ballard Canyon appellation, focuses on Rhone varietals: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvedre, and Viognier, with a small block of Malvasia Bianca as a nod to Italy.
Larner's intimate tasting room sits inside the Los Olivos General Store, a restored 1901 landmark that was once Santa Barbara County's oldest filling station and now houses a tasting bar, gift shop, and art gallery in the center of downtown Los Olivos.
Age-worthy, mineral-driven Rhone wines from a family estate in Ballard Canyon.
