Latcham Vineyards was a Sierra Foothills winery at 2860 Omo Ranch Road near Somerset, in the Fair Play area of El Dorado County, California. Frank Latcham founded it in 1981 after retiring from a law career in the San Francisco Bay Area, and it remained family owned.
The winery was known above all for Zinfandel, described as big and robust, made alongside several other reds each year, plus an entry level blend called Gold Rush Red that sold out quickly. For years its tasting room stood out in Fair Play as one of the few open daily, and accounts describe it as busy with visitors.
The operation now appears to have ended. Yelp lists the Somerset winery as closed, the latcham.com domain has lapsed and is offered for sale rather than pointing at the winery, and the Omo Ranch Road property has been marketed through a commercial real estate listing. Latcham also does not appear in the El Dorado Wines directory of current Fair Play wineries. Treat the daily 11 am to 5 pm hours and the $10 tasting fee on this page as out of date, and do not plan a drive up Omo Ranch Road on the strength of them. Confirm current details before you go.
