About Mer Soleil Winery
Mer Soleil is a Santa Lucia Highlands estate created by Chuck Wagner, the legendary winemaker behind Napa Valley's Caymus Vineyards. The name, French for "sea and sun," captures the defining elements of this Monterey County vineyard: Pacific maritime fog rolls in each morning and burns off to brilliant sunshine by afternoon, creating the dramatic diurnal temperature swings that produce grapes of extraordinary intensity and balance. Wagner planted Mer Soleil in the early 1990s on the steep, wind-swept benchlands above the Salinas Valley, and the estate has become one of the most acclaimed Chardonnay sources on the Central Coast.
The portfolio centers on two distinctive Chardonnay expressions: the barrel-fermented Reserve, rich and complex with layers of citrus, stone fruit, and toasty oak, and the Silver, a bright, unoaked rendition fermented entirely in stainless steel. Mer Soleil has brought the Wagner family's Napa pedigree to the Monterey coast, delivering wines that consistently over-deliver and have earned a devoted following among Chardonnay lovers across the country.
