About Mount Palomar Winery

Mount Palomar Winery is named for Palomar Mountain — the San Diego County peak whose Palomar Observatory houses the famous 200-inch Hale Telescope, one of the world's most important astronomical instruments. John Poole's Temecula Valley estate takes its name from the mountain visible to the southeast whose observatory represents humanity's most systematic effort to understand the universe. The 1975 founding makes Mount Palomar one of Temecula Valley's earliest continuously operating wine estates, predating the region's national wine identity by decades. The Rancho California Road estate produces Sangiovese, Chardonnay, Syrah, and Riesling.
