About Quady Winery

Quady Winery gives Madera a national identity few regions can match: it is the only California winery specializing in premium sweet and aperitif wines, built since 1977 on the distinctive Muscats that love the San Joaquin sun. Andrew Quady's Essensia Orange Muscat and Elysium Black Muscat became American classics, joined by the effervescent Electra line, Vya vermouths and Starboard port-style bottlings.

The certified-sustainable winery welcomes visitors for $10 tastings (free for club members plus three guests) between 11 and 4, with a $20 tasting-and-tour package for those who want the working cellar too; close-toed shoes required on tours, children welcome under supervision, and snacks may be brought along.

Walk-ins are accepted as capacity allows, groups of ten or more should call ahead, and the tasting itself converts skeptics daily; nobody leaves still thinking sweet wine is simple.

Essensia, Elysium, Vya and Starboard: the 1977 original that made sweet wine a serious American craft.
