About Rancho Sisquoc Winery
Rancho Sisquoc Winery sits at the end of a winding farm road on one of California's great historic properties: a Mexican land grant approved in 1845 by Governor Pio Pico that remains intact today, purchased as a 37,000-acre cattle ranch by San Francisco's Flood family in 1952. Sisquoc is the Chumash word for gathering place, and the rustic tasting room under the sycamores has been exactly that since 1977.
Vines went in along the Sisquoc River in 1968, making this one of Santa Barbara County's earliest wine estates, with a first vintage in 1972. Nearly 300 estate acres now grow an unusually broad range, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Malbec to Chardonnay, Riesling, Sangiovese and the rare Sylvaner, all bottled under the label's landmark image of the San Ramon Chapel, the county's first State Historic Landmark, which still overlooks the ranch entrance.
A visit feels like stepping back in time: farmhouses and barns from the early 1900s, lush picnic grounds, friendly walk-in tastings most days of the week, and pastureland in every direction. It is the classic finish to a Foxen Canyon Wine Trail day.
