About Ravenswood Winery
Ravenswood Winery was founded in 1976 by Joel Peterson with a philosophy as direct as the winery's famous tagline: 'No Wimpy Wines.' Peterson's mission was to produce powerful, honest Zinfandels from old vines, the heritage varietals planted by Italian and Croatian immigrants across Sonoma County generations earlier.
Ravenswood pioneered the concept of single-vineyard Zinfandel as a serious collectible wine. Their Dickerson, Teldeschi, and Old Hill vineyard bottlings were California's first Zinfandels to command the collector attention and prices previously reserved for Cabernet Sauvignon, and helped establish Zinfandel as California's signature red grape.
Now part of Constellation Brands, Ravenswood continues to produce from the legendary single-vineyard sites Peterson identified. The Sonoma winery sits just minutes from the Sonoma Plaza with outdoor picnic tables, views of the Sonoma Valley, and a genuine connection to the bold, unpretentious Zinfandel tradition the winery was built on.
