About Refugio Ranch Vineyards
Refugio Ranch Vineyards is a 415-acre former cattle ranch nestled into the north face of the Santa Ynez Mountains, with the Santa Ynez River tracing its northern edge. The Gleason family transformed the historic property beginning in 2006, planting just 28 acres to vine and leaving the majority of the land wild to preserve the rugged beauty that defines the Santa Ynez Valley.
The estate specializes in Rhone varietals, Syrah, Grenache, Petite Sirah, Viognier, and Roussanne, alongside a well-regarded Sauvignon Blanc, all farmed and harvested by hand for low yields and concentrated fruit. The flagship Barbareño, a bold Syrah-based blend, captures the mountain terroir the family prizes.
Refugio Ranch's tasting room sits in a c.1911 building in Los Olivos that once served as a ticketing office on the Pacific Coast Railway, now restored with two tasting bars, a courtyard, and an outdoor deck. Private estate tastings are also offered at the Barn on the vineyard itself.
Estate Rhone wines from a rugged 415-acre former cattle ranch in the Santa Ynez Mountains.
