About Dahlonega Plateau Wine

The Dahlonega Plateau AVA is Georgia's only federally recognized wine appellation, covering the northern Blue Ridge foothills at elevations between 1,500 and 2,400 feet. The elevation creates growing conditions dramatically cooler than Atlanta just 65 miles south, with temperatures 10-15 degrees lower during the growing season. The soils are decomposed granite and iron-rich clay, providing excellent drainage and mineral character. Wolf Mountain Vineyards, Three Sisters Vineyards, and Cavender Creek Vineyards are the quality leaders, producing wines that have won national competitions and challenged assumptions about Georgia wine. The town of Dahlonega, famous for America's first gold rush in 1828, provides a charming base for wine tourism with its historic square, restaurants, and proximity to Appalachian Trail hiking.
