Spokane is Eastern Washington's largest city and the gateway to the Pacific Northwest's interior wine country — a cosmopolitan urban center with a growing wine scene anchored by production facilities drawing fruit from Columbia Valley, Walla Walla, and Yakima Valley sources. The Spokane wine district has developed particular strength in the Perry District neighborhood, where tasting rooms cluster in a walkable urban wine corridor.
The Lewis-Clark Valley AVA, designated in 2021 along the Snake River corridor connecting Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington, represents the most recent addition to Washington's appellation map. The valley's warm summer climate, basalt-influenced soils, and lower elevation than the surrounding Palouse plateau create conditions for Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, and Grenache that distinguish it from other Washington appellations.
Arbor Crest Wine Cellars, perched on a dramatic basalt cliff overlooking the Spokane Valley, is the region's most celebrated producer and landmark — the dramatic Cliff House tasting room offers some of the finest panoramic views of any winery setting in Washington State. Barrister Winery in the downtown warehouse district produces critically acclaimed reds that have established Spokane as a serious wine-producing address.
