About Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery
Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery belongs in the Idaho database, but its current status requires more caution than an ordinary public winery listing. Rock Spur is a small Melba vineyard and winery whose appeal lies in a rural setting, limited production and direct connection to the growers. The wine story at Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery should make clear whether the operation is estate-focused, multi-label, educational or curated. The current wines should be presented through estate or nearby Snake River Valley fruit and refreshed from the winery's live offerings.
For Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery, featured bottles should be refreshed independently from the producer story. The traveler-facing description of Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery should focus on the current way guests encounter the operation. Hospitality is personal and appointment-led, making the visit suitable for small groups rather than spontaneous traffic. Current research supports "Visits by appointment or direct confirmation" for Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery, paired with a map decision of "Conditional." Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery is best matched with vineyard-focused travelers and guests seeking a quiet rural appointment.
Defining this audience makes the Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery recommendation more useful than universal praise. Before Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery appears in an itinerary, the editorial team should confirm the live public address, schedule, booking path, tasting format, fees, group limits, food and guest policies. Do not publish walk-in hours without direct confirmation. The recommended editorial disposition for Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery is "Publish with live-access notice," supported by a high-confidence research classification. This structure gives Rock Spur Vineyards & Winery durable value while protecting travelers from stale operational claims.
Rock Spur launched a seated estate tasting in September 2026 at its Melba vineyard property. Sessions run Saturdays by appointment at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, last about 90 minutes and seat up to 12 guests communally, with estate wines paired with a cheese and charcuterie board and an invitation to walk the vineyard. Founder and vineyard manager Jenell Kasper hosts the tastings herself and farms the estate, which is the point of the format: guests hear growing decisions from the person who makes them. The single 20-acre estate vineyard sits at roughly 2,440 feet near Melba, where basalt sands from a volcanic vent at its south end shape the soil, and it is farmed block by block. The Kasper family grew grapes for other wineries for years before establishing Rock Spur as an estate brand. Consulting winemaker Ray McKee makes estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Tempranillo, Malbec and rose. The name comes from a former rail spur that ran alongside the property.
