About SchillingBridge Winery & Microbrewery
SchillingBridge Winery & Microbrewery is a working farm operation in the far southeast corner of Nebraska, started by Mike and Sharon Schilling, who planted the vineyard in 2002 and opened the winery in 2005. Its claim to fame is a genuine first: it was the first farm winery and microbrewery in the country to put both under one roof. The name comes from an 1890 limestone bridge on the property, which is still the landmark people use to find the place. The family added food service in 2008, and the next generation, Dallas Schilling and Kelly Schilling-Bletscher with Jonathan helping to run the day to day, now carries much of the business.
A visit covers both sides of the house. There is a tasting room and a production area, plus banquet space, and the kitchen runs wine and beer infused menu items alongside the wines, the handcrafted microbrews and signature cocktails on Friday and Saturday evenings. The wines and beers are made with locally sourced ingredients, and the labels turn up in grocery stores across Nebraska, so it is a name people in the state already know before they make the drive. The setting is farmland, not a manicured estate, which is much of the point.
The winery is at 62193 710th Road, Pawnee City, NE 68420, phone (402) 852-2400, with listed hours of Wednesday and Thursday 1pm to 6pm, Saturday 1pm to 9pm and Sunday 1pm to 6pm, closed Monday and Tuesday. If you cannot get to Pawnee City, the family also runs SchillingBridge Cork & Tap House in the Fallbrook neighbourhood of north Lincoln at 575 Fallbrook Boulevard, Suite 109, which pours the same wines and beers with a made from scratch kitchen. Confirm current hours, tasting fees and evening service with the winery before you go.
