The Sierra Oro Farm Trail is not a wine trail in the usual sense - and that is its charm. Established in 2005 as a nonprofit association of Butte County farms and agricultural businesses, it binds more than thirty stops - orchards, olive mills, nut farms, creameries and a strong slate of wineries - into one self-guided route through the North Sacramento Valley. Every October the trail runs its signature Farm & Wine Pass, a month-long harvest celebration in partnership with Explore Butte County; the rest of the year, members welcome visitors on their own schedules.

What the Sierra Oro Farm Trail Is Like
The winery members carry the North Valley story told across our region pages: LaRocca pouring its certified-organic Forest Ranch estate in downtown Chico, Almendra running winery and distillery together on Durham's Midway, Gale's reclaimed-timber cellar, the Oroville and Bangor foothill stops, and New Clairvaux's Trappist abbey at Vina anchoring the north end. Between wine stops the trail is pure Butte County agriculture: mandarins, olive oil, chestnuts, lavender and farmstead cheese, largely from multi-generational family operations.
