About Silver Oak Cellars Napa Alexander
Silver Oak Cellars is named for the silver oak — the Australian Grevillea robusta, known as silk oak or silver oak for its silvery-underside leaves, combined with the American valley oak (Quercus lobata) that frames the Napa Valley landscape. The silver-and-oak combination declares the estate's dual identity: precious-metal quality and the specific California oak that roots the wine in its place. Justin Meyer and Ray Duncan founded Silver Oak in 1972 with a philosophy that would define their program for decades: only one wine, only Cabernet Sauvignon, released only after years of additional aging beyond the legal minimum, announced each year on a specific release date. Wine Advocate has scored Silver Oak's Napa Valley Cabernet at 90–94 points.
