About Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery
Smoky Hill Vineyards & Winery is a family-owned Kansas farm winery that grows, produces, and bottles its wines in Salina, in the heart of central Kansas. It originated in 1991 when founders Steven Jennings and Kay Bloom hand-planted the first vines on a single acre, and by 2009 it had grown into the largest grape-producing farm winery in the state.
In 2012 the winery passed to George and Jeanna Plante, longtime vineyard owners, along with their daughter Nicki and her husband Brock Ebert, who carry on a mission to produce world-class wines indicative of central Kansas. The estate now farms about twenty acres across three vineyards, the Smoky Hill Estate Vineyard, the White Cross Vineyard in Lindsborg, and the Long Vineyard in Salina, and distributes throughout Kansas. Visitors can taste at three locations: the winery at 2771 Centennial Road in Salina, the Under the Cork outlet at 110 North Main in downtown Lindsborg, and the Kansas Originals tasting room along Highway 232 in Wilson. Signature bottlings include the tropical, Moscato-style Sweet Lady and the jammy, Concord-based River Valley Red.
Hours, tasting fees, and reservation policies change with the season, so it is worth checking the winery's website or calling ahead before you visit, especially on weekends. The details on this profile may have shifted since publication, and the producer is always the most authoritative source.
