About Spanish Valley Vineyard & Winery / Moab Winery

In the Press: Named Utah’s best winery by Tasting Table in its July 2026 feature on the best winery in every US state.

Spanish Valley Vineyard & Winery is Moab's only winery, set at the end of Zimmerman Lane a few miles south of town, where vineyard rows run toward red rock canyon walls. The site's story is one of the most unusual in American wine: the vineyard traces back to the late 1970s, when Utah State University planted it as an agricultural experiment to test whether wine grapes could become a cash crop for a local economy then leaning on a fading uranium industry. More than four decades later, the vines are a working answer.

Everything here is single-vineyard and estate-bottled - grown, fermented, and bottled on the property, with the wine never leaving the estate until it is packaged and ready. The iron-rich desert soils, long growing season, warm sunny days, and cool mountain nights favor aromatic whites, and the winery has built its reputation on German-varietal bottlings - visitors regularly single out the Riesling and Late Harvest Riesling - alongside structured reds.

The setting does the rest. The tasting room shares space with production, the patio welcomes dogs, and the winery sits minutes from Arches and the rest of Moab's red rock country - a genuinely unexpected finish to a day of hiking. Tastings run about $20 and vineyard tours about $50; hours are Wednesday to Sunday 12pm to 7pm - confirm with the winery before visiting, as hours shift seasonally.
