About Stone Bluff Cellars
Stone Bluff Cellars is an Oklahoma label with two chapters and an uncertain present. Bob and Sandy McBratney planted the original vineyards in 1997 near Haskell, southeast of Tulsa, and licensed the winery in 1999, building a tasting room with hill-country views, an outdoor dining area and a gift shop at 24145 E 191st St S. In the mid 2010s the label and the McBratneys' award-winning recipes were acquired by Silvertop Farm & Vineyards, run by Mary and Tom Steichen, who moved the operation north to the Salt Fork River valley near Ponca City and reopened to the public on 20 March 2015.
Under Silvertop the plantings ran to about eight acres of Chardonel, Vignoles and Cynthiana, with Noiret and Chambourcin added to the plan, and Mary Steichen said at the time that acquiring the Stone Bluff label and its recipes was the whole point of the deal. Dan Gray oversaw winemaking and Aubrey Griffith ran the vineyard. The reopening weekend paired a ribbon cutting with farm tours, and the published hours were Saturdays 9am to 6pm and Sundays noon to 5pm, a weekend-only rhythm that fitted a working farm.
Plan carefully, because current visitor information could not be confirmed. The original Haskell property is now listed as closed, and the Ponca City operation does not appear on the Ponca City visitor bureau's attraction listings, so it is not clear whether the tasting room still keeps public hours. Ponca City itself is an easy base, with the Marland Mansion, the Pioneer Woman Museum and Lake Ponca all close by. Contact the winery directly to confirm current hours, tasting arrangements and whether it is open to visitors before you make the drive.
