About Sutter Ridge Vineyards

Sutter Ridge Vineyards combines two historical layers: the name of John Sutter, at whose sawmill James Marshall discovered gold in 1848 and ignited the California Gold Rush that transformed the state, and the topographic ridge above the El Dorado County estate where the vines grow. The Sutter name connects the estate to the historical event that made California what it is; the ridge declares the specific terrain.

The Carson Road estate in Placerville produces Zinfandel, Barbera, Syrah, and Chardonnay from El Dorado County vineyard blocks with the Gold Rush country character the historical naming implies. The same Sierra Nevada foothills that drew 300,000 prospectors now grow wine that rewards a different kind of treasure seeker.
